Choose a Training Plan that suits your goals
At North Sydney Dojo, we believe everyone’s karate journey is different. Whether you're taking your first class, training for fitness, preparing for grading, or a seasoned karate-ka striving for excellence, our training plans are designed to support your goals while staying true to traditional Shotokan karate.
As your commitment grows, so too does your opportunity to develop. More time on the dojo floor means more technical refinement, stronger fundamentals, and faster progress.
KIHON
Train 1 x week
A great start for beginners and those seeking steady, consistent progress.
Kihon (基本) means "fundamentals"—the foundation upon which all karate is built.
This plan includes one class per week and is ideal for students who:
- Are new to karate.
- Want to build confidence and learn at a comfortable pace.
- Are balancing karate with work, school or other commitments.
- Want to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of regular training.
Training once a week provides a solid foundation, allowing you to steadily develop technique, coordination and understanding while progressing through the grading syllabus.
KEIKO
Train 2 x a week
For students ready to accelerate their development.
Keiko (稽古) means "dedicated practice" or "study through repetition." It reflects the traditional Japanese approach of refining skills through consistent, purposeful training.
This plan includes up to two classes per week and suits students who:
- Want to progress through gradings more confidently.
- Are looking to improve fitness, technique and timing.
- Want more opportunities to reinforce what they learn.
- Enjoy training as a regular part of their weekly routine.
Twice-weekly training allows techniques to become more natural and helps build greater confidence, precision and consistency.
SHUGYO
Train 3-4 x a week
For students committed to reaching their full potential.
Shugyo (修行) represents the pursuit of mastery through disciplined, ongoing training. It is a mindset of continual improvement rather than simply attending more classes.
This plan includes unlimited training and is designed for students who:
- Want to train three or more times per week.
- Are preparing for advanced gradings or competitions.
- Aspire to become instructors or senior students.
- Want to immerse themselves in every aspect of karate.
Regular, frequent training develops not only technical ability, but also discipline, resilience and a deeper understanding of traditional Shotokan karate.
SINGLE VISIT
Train when it suits you.
The Single Visit option is ideal for:
- Visitors from other dojos.
- Students travelling through Sydney.
- Those wanting to experience a class before joining.
- Existing members who need occasional flexibility.
You're welcome to experience the atmosphere of our dojo, meet our instructors, and enjoy authentic Shotokan karate training without committing to an ongoing plan.
