Dojo Kun

Dojo Kun is the  Japanese term for "training hall rules", which outline the behaviour that karate-ka strive to live by both inside and outside the dojo.

At North Sydney Dojo, we recite the SKIF Dojo Kun in Japanese at the end of class, to remind ourselves of what we are striving for and reflect on the training.  For the beginners class, we recite the dojo kun in English.

All 5 rules are given the same level of importance, therefore each begin with "Hitotsu" which translates to "First".

Check out the videos on our You Tube channel to learn the Dojo Kun in Japanese, voiced by one of our Japanese speaking North Sydney Dojo members.
